In the Domesday Book, Dinton was recorded as Information about Dinton: A map showing Dinton Castle's exact location: Levan [This message has been edited by Levan (edited 06-05-2000).] Kevin has also provided the following information: "I don't know how much you know of the history of the building, but Levan I'm impressed by Levan's research. ------------------petalforce ...what the name of (and where is) the castle in the bottom left corner of the Castle Greetings postcards page http://www.castlesontheweb.com/greetings/index.html

Levanpetalforce Do you also know where I might find some more info on it? I have been searching and can't seem to find a thing. Levan I don't really know a lot about English castles (if it was in Scotland I might stand a chance - perhaps this is Philip's domain?).

whom have a website that includes photographs of Buckinghamshire churches and villages. He has very kindly responded by quickly adding a photograph of Dinton Castle:

briefly, it is the ruin of a folly built by Sir John Vanhatten in 1769,
to provide a setting to house his collection of fossils. In fact he
included large ammonites in the construction of the walls, and some of
these can be seen in the photo eg over the central window arch."Philip Davis I could find no reference to it and suspected it wasn't medieval. I did look but I don't really like to post negative answers.
And as I rode by Dalton-Hall Beneath the turrets high, A maiden on the castle-wall Was singing merrily: The Outlaw by Sir Walter Scott

I am a bit disappointed that it isn't medieval but it is interesting none the less. I also think it photographs very well. Thanks again!!!!
